Zydeco is an installation constructed entirely from two hundred fifty six Bristol paper modules. Research for the project started by studying the zydeco dance which roots in the Deep South culture of the Louisiana bayous. The dance was studied and each movement was assigned a symbol which corresponded to a manipulation of the form. The series of operations ranged from simple movements to particular scaling gestures. In the end, the system can begin to produce unlimited forms based on the movements of the dancers. Each module contains four separate pieces that were unrolled on the computer, scored using a drag knife system, and then cut by hand. Each module received a particular number which corresponded to its position on the wall. The wall appears flat when viewed in elevation and a gradient of apertures is also present based on the structural properties of the modules.
